Musician-based biopics have become quite popular over the last handful of years.
Most notably, we’ve seen Bohemian Rhapsody (Queen) and Rocketman (Elton John) become highly successful film adaptations of stories surrounding these famous music icons.
In what will perhaps be the biggest challenge of his illustrious career, Sam Mendes is reportedly aiming to take on the storytelling of The Beatles — arguably the most successful and noteworthy pop band of all time.
According to Deadline, Mendes will direct four films — filmed simultaneously — where each will focus on one of the band members. Every movie will reportedly then be told from the perspective of Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, George Harrison, and John Lennon individually. Other reports indicate that all four movies will be woven together to form a more complete narrative. Even more intriguing, one report revealed that all four biopics are slated to be released in 2027.
Mendes is no stranger to a big-budget project. The English filmmaker has directed the likes of 1917, Skyfall, Revolutionary Road, Road to Perdition, American Beauty, and Spectre (among others).
From a casting standpoint, multiple names have been associated with the project. Reportedly, Paul Mescal (Normal People) is being rumored to play Paul McCartney. Harris Dickinson (The Iron Claw) is linked to John Lennon, Barry Keoghan (The Banshees of Inisherin) is associated with Ringo Starr, and the relatively unknown Charlie Rowe (Neverland) is said to be involved with playing George Harrison.
