Tom Hanks and Robert Zemeckis are one of Hollywood’s most successful actor-director pairings.
Zemeckis (also known for the Back to the Future trilogy among other projects) worked with Hanks on Cast Away, The Polar Express, and Forrest Gump. The famed director knew exactly what buttons to push with the talented Hanks. This includes crafting narratives and scenes illuminating Hanks and everything he brings to the table.
On Tuesday morning, the public received a slight glimpse into the next project featuring the pair. Titled Here, the Zemeckis-directed project will ironically feature Hanks and another one of his former leads, Robin Wright.
Zemeckis spoke to Vanity Fair about the project, which previously had been kept relatively under wraps. According to Zemeckis, the movie is slated to take place over a century. The actors involved in the project will accordingly age with the story’s progression.
However, according to Zemeckis, the camera angle — which is set in a living room — will never change. Reportedly, it won’t even zoom on anything specifically, and this includes the camera not turning in any direction, either. Essentially, those watching the movie will be looking at the same frame — with the requisite changes that’ll occur over time in a living room setting.
Hanks and Wright reunite here to play the leads, and the two reportedly get married. Through the lens of the film, the audience will be able to see how they met — and ultimately what their relationship evolved into over time.
As we’ve seen in other films, Zemeckis is an inventive guy, not afraid to push the boundaries of filmmaking. It will be curious to see exactly how this unique setting will operate.
The movie reportedly will also feature Paul Bettany, Michelle Dockery, Gwilym Lee, Ophelia Lovibond, and Nicholas Pinnock.
