The Lion King to Return to Theaters for 30th Anniversary This Summer

The King of the Jungle is back. Earlier today, Disney announced on Instagram that The Lion King would be returning to theaters on July 12.

Disney’s Instagram post featured a poster with familiar faces from the iconic film — including Simba, Mufasa, Rafiki, Timon, Pumbaa, Scar, Nala, Zazu, Shenzi, Banzai, and Ed. The Lion King’s return to theaters continues a trend of popular movies being brought back to the big screen.

In addition to the 1994 classic, films such as The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, Shrek 2, Tenet and all eight Spider-Man movies have appeared, or are set to appear, in theaters. The Lion King was originally released on June 15, 1994. Now, the world will have an opportunity to relive the magical tale for its 30th anniversary.

The news of Lion King‘s return to theaters precedes the December arrival of Mufasa — a live-action prequel to The Lion King that is set for a December 2024 debut.
