In the past two weeks, two well-known actors have joined the cast of Dexter: Original Sin. On Thursday morning, news broke that Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) will be joining the serial killer spin-off.
Gellar is set to play Tanya Martin — in a guest starring role — Dexter Morgan’s (Patrick Gibson) boss and the CSI Chief at the Miami Metro Police Department.
The news of Gellar joining the cast comes just one week after the confirmation of Patrick Dempsey being set to star in the show. Dempsey (Grey’s Anatomy) will be playing the role of Aaron Spencer — the Captain of the Miami Metro Homicide. Spencer is said to be a close friend of Dexter’s father, Harry Morgan.
“Sarah Michelle Gellar is a pop culture icon who perfectly rounds out our best-in-class cast featuring Christian Slater and Patrick Dempsey among others,” shared Nina L. Diaz, President of Content and Chief Creative Officer, Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios & Paramount Media Networks. “We’re thrilled to have her return to the Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios family and join the origin story of the Dexter franchise.”
The 10-episode original drama series from Paramount+ With Showtime, set in 1991 Miami, will follow Dexter in the early stages of his serial killer evolution. As fans of the original series will certainly remember, Dexter is taught a “code” by his father that allows him to operate in society while also satisfying his dark desires. The prequel will follow Dexter as he “transitions from student to avenging serial killer.”
In addition to Gellar and Dempsey, the cast includes Molly Brown as Debra Morgan, James Martinez as Angel Batista, Christina Milian as Maria LaGuerta, and Alex Shimizu as Vince Masuka — Debra, Batista, LaGuerta and Masuka were all characters in the original series.
