The trailer for the Nosferatu trailer dropped Monday morning — and boy has it created a buzz within the industry.
The film is an adaptation of the iconic 1922 version directed by F.W. Murnau, starring the likes of Max Schreck, Greta Schroder, and Gustav von Wangenheim. It’s widely considered to be a transcendent horror film — and one of the most acclaimed in the genre as a whole.
The 2024 version is directed by Robert Eggert and stars an impressive cast featuring Lily-Rose Depp, Nicholas Hoult, Willem Dafoe, Aaron-Taylor Johnson, and Bill Skarsgard (as Nosferatu).
The trailer conjures up elements of anxiety, intrigue, and suspense. An unsettling score accompanies the visuals, which are at times dimly lit — almost begging for creatures to crawl out of the shadows. Set in a European town during approximately the 19th century, this period piece delves into a world where things aren’t always as they seem.
One of the female leads becomes entangled with the titular character. Within the trailer, there are several scary things — including full-on screams and a guy about to chow down on a live pigeon. Egger’s background with darker, veiled projects (most notably The Lighthouse) makes him a perfect fit for this gothic adaptation.
